A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray [Feb. 10th, 2008|09:10 pm]
Where Intelligence Blooms

Ah, so what do we think of this book? I wrote a quick review for goodreads.com, so ya'll can see that.

A Great and Terrible Beauty has become one of my favorite books in the tiniest period of time. Taking place in the late 19th century, the book is about Gemma Doyle, an unusual girl with powers unbeknownst to her. And because of the period this takes place, I was sure I wouldn't like it. But I was completely wrong! The characters all are unique and relatable, Gemma has wit and her sarcastic thoughts bring an edge to the book, and hello, Gemma/Kartik=love! I love the depth of the book, and the pace is constantly leaving you breathless (or maybe I'm asthmatic? XD) I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants some fantasy mixed in with a little historical fiction (barely, seriously).

A Great and Terrible Beauty

I read this book some time ago and absolutely fell in love with it! I do have to ask have you read Rebel Angels and The Sweet Far Thing? The story only gets better and better =)
I definitely applaud Miss Bray, I was enchanted. Gemma's personality definitely lines up very close to mine and I've already fallen for Kartik. Let me know what you think of the rest of the series!
