A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray [Feb. 10th, 2008|09:10 pm]
Where Intelligence Blooms

Ah, so what do we think of this book? I wrote a quick review for goodreads.com, so ya'll can see that.

A Great and Terrible Beauty has become one of my favorite books in the tiniest period of time. Taking place in the late 19th century, the book is about Gemma Doyle, an unusual girl with powers unbeknownst to her. And because of the period this takes place, I was sure I wouldn't like it. But I was completely wrong! The characters all are unique and relatable, Gemma has wit and her sarcastic thoughts bring an edge to the book, and hello, Gemma/Kartik=love! I love the depth of the book, and the pace is constantly leaving you breathless (or maybe I'm asthmatic? XD) I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants some fantasy mixed in with a little historical fiction (barely, seriously).

I liked it. It was very different for me, but I had only heard amazing things about it. At some points I was like "Ummm wtf and where is this going?" and the end was kind of what I'm going to call "spacey" cause I read it like 12 times to figure it out, but still I kept reading and loved it.

Definitely recommend it.
